Piano Nova supports MusicXML, MXL, and PDF uploads. For PDFs and photos of sheet music, we use a recognition engine to convert them into playable scores. MusicXML files give the best results.

Playing and practising the scores in your library is unlimited and never metered, and so is uploading MusicXML files. Converting PDFs and photos has a real per-page processing cost, so Lifetime includes a monthly conversion allowance — several times what a typical player uses. No. Piano Nova works without a MIDI keyboard — you can listen to playback, follow along with the score, and sight reading. A MIDI keyboard adds the ability to play along and get real-time feedback.
