Piano Nova supports MusicXML, MXL, and PDF uploads. For PDFs and photos of sheet music, we use a recognition engine to convert them into playable scores. MusicXML files give the best results.

One payment of $299 gives you full access to Piano Nova forever — no recurring charges, no renewals. At our yearly price it pays for itself in ~2 years, then you never pay again.

Lifetime is not a stripped-down plan: it carries exactly the same monthly upload allowance as the monthly and yearly plans — you simply stop paying for it. As on every paid plan, playing and practising the scores in your library is unlimited and never metered, while converting new uploads has a real per-page processing cost and so falls under a fair-use monthly allowance, set generously enough that normal personal use will not run into it. No. Piano Nova works without a MIDI keyboard — you can listen to playback, follow along with the score, and sight reading. A MIDI keyboard adds the ability to play along and get real-time feedback.
