Terms of Service

These Terms govern your use of Piano Nova, operated by Ivan Shapovalov, an individual based in Cyprus ("we", "us", "Piano Nova"). By creating an account or using Piano Nova, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

1. The Service

Piano Nova lets you upload music scores, converts them to a playable format, and plays them back, including via connected MIDI pianos. Features and availability may change over time.

2. Eligibility & Account

You must be at least 14 — the age of digital consent in Cyprus. If you are younger, you may use Piano Nova only with a parent or guardian's consent, who agrees to these Terms on your behalf. You are responsible for your account credentials and for activity under your account. Provide accurate information and keep it current.

3. Uploading Scores

4. Your Content & Licence

You keep all rights to the scores you upload. You grant us a limited licence to store, process, and display that content solely to operate the service for you. We do not claim ownership of your content.

5. Subscriptions, Billing & Access

6. Lifetime Access

Where offered, "Lifetime" access means access for the lifetime of the Piano Nova service — for as long as Piano Nova continues to operate. It is not a perpetual guarantee independent of the service. If Piano Nova is permanently discontinued, lifetime access ends. We will give reasonable notice if we plan to discontinue the service.

What Lifetime includes. Lifetime access removes the recurring payment. It includes converting up to 200 PDF or photo pages a month, on the terms set out in section 3. Playback, practice, and MusicXML/MXL uploads remain unlimited and unmetered.

7. Refunds & Withdrawal

Your statutory 14-day right. If you are a consumer in the EU or the United Kingdom, you have a statutory 14-day right of withdrawal on digital purchases — subscriptions, Lifetime, and per-score unlocks alike. To exercise it, email contact@piano-nova.com within 14 days of the purchase and we will refund you. You do not need to give a reason.

Model withdrawal form. You may use the wording below to withdraw, but you do not have to — any clear statement by email is enough, and we will confirm receipt.

Everywhere else. If you are not an EU or UK consumer, that statutory right does not apply to you and purchases are final. We may still refund at our discretion — see below — but there is no automatic window, and we will not normally refund once you have downloaded the converted MusicXML file, since the file is the whole of what the purchase delivers and cannot be returned.

Pages we did not convert. Where you unlock a score so that we will convert its remaining pages and that conversion then fails, we refund the unlock automatically — you do not need to ask, and the 14-day window does not limit it. That is us failing to deliver, not you changing your mind.

Conversion quality. Converting printed sheet music is automated recognition, not transcription by a person, and the result will not always be perfect. If a converted score is not usable, email us and we will put it right or refund it. Whether a result is unusable is a judgement we make case by case; a small number of misread notes in an otherwise playable score is not, on its own, grounds for a refund.

After the 14 days. Beyond the statutory window, refunds are at our discretion. Where you have already downloaded the converted MusicXML file we will normally decline, unless the problem is a failure on our side.

What a refund does. A refund removes the access it paid for. Refunding a per-score unlock returns that score to the free level and its converted file stops being available to download; refunding a subscription or Lifetime purchase ends that access.

8. Acceptable Use

Do not misuse the service: no unlawful use, no attempts to break, overload, or reverse-engineer the service, no uploading malware, and no infringing or harmful content.

Your account is for you. Your account, and any plan attached to it, is for your own personal use. Do not share your credentials with others, and do not sell, rent, or transfer your account. Do not run one account on behalf of a group — a school, a studio, a church, or a class. Each person who uses Piano Nova needs their own account. If you need to cover a group, we are happy to help: email contact@piano-nova.com about a teacher or school plan.

No resale or bulk processing. Do not use Piano Nova to run a score conversion, transcription, or digitisation service for other people, and do not script, automate, or otherwise bulk-submit uploads. The service is for converting scores you intend to play yourself.

How we enforce this. Where use clearly falls outside personal use — credentials in use across many people or locations, or sustained automated uploading — we may contact you, apply rate limits to the account, or, for serious or repeated breaches, suspend or terminate it under section 10. We will normally reach out and give you a chance to put things right before suspending an account, unless the breach is severe.

9. Disclaimers & Liability

Piano Nova is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. Score recognition is automated and may contain errors. To the maximum extent permitted by law, our liability for any claim relating to the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.

10. Termination

You may stop using Piano Nova and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate accounts that breach these Terms.

11. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms; the version identifier and effective date above will change, and material changes will be communicated by email or in-app. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated Terms.

12. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Cyprus, and disputes are subject to the courts of Cyprus, without affecting any mandatory consumer protections in your country of residence.
